Huron is located in the center of eastern South Dakota where U.S. Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 37 intersect. The city is conveniently located within 2 hours of 75% of South Dakota's population and within 5 hours of larger cities, such as Fargo, ND; Omaha, NE; Rapid City, SD and Minneapolis, MN.

The Gladys Pyle Home: The first elected female U.S. Senator, built in 1894, is a well preserved example of Queen Anne architecture with original oak woodwork, fixtures and leaded stained glass windows. Located at: 376 Idaho Avenue, SE (605) 352-2528. Open daily 1:00 - 3:30 pm.
Huron, Riverside and Pearl Creek Colonies: Visit one of the three area Hutterite Colonies and experience their unique lifestyle that allows them to live in a self-sustaining community. During the tour you will venture into the families dwellings, animal barns, machine shops and dining hall. You will be impressed by the hand made woodwork, furniture, rugs, crafts and beautiful bedspreads. To set up a tour, call the Visitors Bureau at (605) 352-0000.
Dakotaland Museum: Hosts a collection of more than 5,000 artifacts, historical documents, photographs, maps and newspapers that display the Spirit of Dakota Heritage that remains in Huron and the surrounding area. Also on location is the latest in Huron's Murals on the town, "Seeds of Democracy" by Colorado artist Paul Guivens. The collection of portraits highlights a portion of the political history of Huron, Beadle County and South Dakota. Open every day, Memorial Day to Labor Day, Monday - Friday from 9:30 - 11:30 am, 1:00 - 4:00 pm, and 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Weekends and holidays from 1:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:30 - 8:30 pm.
Humphrey Drug Store: This is where former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey worked during the Great Depression. Operated by Humphrey's nephew, the store thrives today with a wide variety of memorabilia from the Humphrey family. Located at 233 Dakota Avenue, (605) 352-3386 and open daily from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.
